For any issues there would be so many views. Here, this article explains the Eelam issue in the thought level with people's different perspective point of view or attitude.
There was a article in The Hindu news paper on 24-04-2009 by Malini Parthasarathy.... the link is here http://www.thehindu.com/2009/04/24/stories/2009042454191000.htm
This article was written based on the outer look with prejudice thoughts against the LTTE. I do not intend to give any supportive arguments for the LTTE. But once again read the article. Do not you feel that it is one sided, supporting only the Sri Lankan Govt. and opposing the LTTE.? It is.
As a neutral person, the article should show what is the motto of LTTE also, since an organization cannot sustain for several decades without having any proper motto.
First and foremost thing to understand is, who are actually LTTE and who are Tamils? As per the Sri-Lankan government's statistics, so far more than 15,000 LTTE cadres were killed from 2002 onwards. Who are these 15,000+? How and why do they need to become a rebel?
Just because that it is armed rebellion group (Sorry I strongly condemn the word 'Terrorist' to denote LTTE. I hope u agree for this, If not define terrorism and compare) one (in particular Indians) can not oppose like that the path is wrong.
Only Indian have the attitude of saying that the violence is not the way of freedom fights. Because our Indian history has been greatly biased suppressing the violence side of freedom fights carried out by so many people beyond Subash Chandra bose, and Bagat singh.(In general, History is made by the rulers) My strong belief is that India did not obtain the freedom. But the freedom was given to us.
In the sense after the world war II, the British economy went low, and it could not able to maintain the big country like India. Even though there was a non-violence fight by Gandhi, there was a threat from Subash also, which needed to be tackled. Not just the Subash, there were so many violence attacks with in India against British. And also Hindu, Muslim problem.... proper Administration needed that the govt to be wealthy. But British was not so.
See the world history as well... Cuba, Vietnam, etc. In general the freedom struggle starts with armed fighting only. The political solution comes later when the fighting could not be continued by both the parties. You can see the same in our Indian freedom struggle also. the non-violence had also joined in 1918 after Gandhi's entry. But our freedom fight started in 1857 with a rebel.
In Srilanka, Tamils freedom struggle started from 1948. And the non-violence protests were carried out initially. But in 1956 after the Sinhala only act the (non-violence) freedom fighters were assaulted and about 100+ were killed. From that period on wards systematic genocidal killing of Tamil people with the support of govt is being carried out.
Nearing the 1980s only LTTE has emerged.
Why there was not a solution for the ethnic conflict in the period of 1948 to 1980 with the non-violence? But only the Tamil people were killed in those periods. Tamil people fought back in 1982. This resulted the Black July of Tamilians. I am sure there could not be a solution obtained through the non-violence, without the inclusion of some violence.
Today there are mass killings; so many people are dying in the war. Not just because it is LTTE has fought against Sri Lanka with arms. But because Sri Lanka is strengthened by India and Japan. Partially Pak and China also supporting it. It is the war of LTTE Vs '5 Countries'.
If LTTE are the only problem why several thousands of civilians are being killed in the war. And India has not raised its voice at least to save the innocent people.
Our Indian Judiciary system says a criminal can escape from a crime but in no way an innocent being punished (In loose words). Everybody know, from January 2009 to till date about 7000+ people innocents(LTTEs are not included) were killed and 15,000 were injured. But at least for a namesake, India should have raised its voice.....!
The total media has been banned in the region and the killings are not disclosed.
It is sure India cannot raise its voice, since it is partner in the war. If you want justification for this please see the article in "The 3 wise men of India - Srilankan War the benefit" http://srinath-mind.blogspot.com/2009/04/3-wise-men-of-india-sri-lankan-war.html
And no Indian has the right to talk about who is right and who is wrong... No Indian should speak about LTTE, who sacrifice their life to save their people and land. Now more than lakhs of people may come out from LTTE controlled region. But why they haven't come out earlier? Why they needed to be with LTTE till the region is being crunched to some 5 sq.km only? Really saying they didn't flee out of LTTE. But they do not have any other choice. If we think practicality, we could understand the situation. How several 100s of LTTE could holds more than a Lakh of people? Will the LTTE concentrate on fighting against army or would they try to hold the people with them??? (This article is written on 30th April 2009. But now there is no LTTE to carry out the war. Moreover they decided to keep their arms silence. So many top leaders of LTTE are killed. The war came to an end. But the freedom struggle will not.)
Only Indian Tamils keep their mouth mum fearing of Indian govt. Not the Tamilians in other countries. Some 4-5 lakhs of Tamil people in other countries like Germany, Canada, Norway, Spain, Britain, US, Australia, etc.... are supporting LTTE only. With their steps only, the issue has been taken to UN. Moreover India does not like this issue is getting blowing-up. So many recent activities of India are still needs to expose...
